Warner House travels to far flung lands with two new archival designs for Autumn/Winter 2023. Exotic Kingdom and Parade transport you to a time of alluring adventure and cultural discovery and are available in a fine cotton with glazed chintz finish and as a premium wallcovering.

“As a design pioneer, since 1870, we’re renowned for injecting maximal and magical designs into interiors,” says owner and founder of Warner House, Lee Clarke, “and these latest looks build on that alchemy; enabling decorators to reinvent rooms with wanderlust heritage pattern.”

Read on for a whistle-stop tour of the history behind these unashamedly decorative designs, the colourways available and how to add confident combinations to your interior projects.

Exotic Kingdom

Warner House Exotic Kingdom

Dating to France circa 1870, this dramatic jungle-themed pattern was inspired by the European elite’s love of discovering new kingdoms. Contented lions amble through a utopian landscape of luscious green palm and banana trees, while clambering monkeys playfully call to each other. The forest drips with fantastical hanging flowerheads in bewitching reds, pinks and blues.

“This large-scale illustration will envelop a room with out-of-this-world escapism,” says Lee Clarke. “In three colourways, Noir, Ivory, and Blush, you can create a moody, fresh or romantic feel depending on your needs.”

We love to use Exotic Kingdom as a one-step solution to add pace and liveliness to spaces lacking in character. It works instantaneously as a colour-catching wallpaper in high-ceiling spaces that are cool and hard to warm up.

If you are feeling adventurous, layer pattern on pattern. Exotic Kingdom Noir (shown) colour-clashes perfectly with Fernbrooke Ochre, an Irish mid-18th century cotton toile of tropical trailing banana leaves and anemones. Shown here on both the headboard and the lampshade. Exotic Kingdom Ivory , with its off-white ground, also works as a clever opposite on cushions or bedcovers. Rich velvet cushions, such as Downham Berry and Downham Saffron will act as complementary plains.

Parade

Warner House Parade

Parade’s historical origins are rooted in the mid-18th century European fascination with the pleasures of Chinese culture, known as chinoiserie.

Parade features an arcadian scene of whimsical characters enjoying everyday pastimes, such as walking with a dog or playing a musical instrument. Dressed in embellished and flowing robes, the debonair figures are surrounded by evocative and stylised branches, leaves and roots. The Rococo design is in the style of Jean-Baptiste Pillement, the French painter and designer, who enjoyed combining out-of-scale elements in his work.

“This evocative design comes as fine cotton with a glazed finish and as a wallpaper. It can be used as a stand alone element or as a classic toile effect (as shown), across walls, curtain treatments and soft furnishings,” says Lee Clarke.

The two superior colourways, Sapphire (shown) and Multi, allow you to play with effects depending on the intended room. Sapphire lifts the spirits in light and airy rooms, such as breakfast rooms, bathrooms and bedrooms; while Multi enriches living rooms, libraries, studies and hallways where the warmer hues will chime with darker woods.

As with Exotic Kingdom, overlay with Warner House’s complementary patterns, drawing out similar colourways for a cohesive look. Piped, corded and bullion fringed cushions in Lady Emma Green, an all-over trellis of poppies and harebells, and Avignon Chambray, a floral trail, make for perfect finishing touches on a window seat for instance.

Escapism sums up this capsule collection from Warner House. Thanks to the beauty of these exotic archival designs, you can elevate your interiors to a dreamy new level. Whether it is a roll of wallpaper, a pair of curtains, a group of cushions, our products allow you to enjoy timeless and charismatic style.
